A native Houstonian, Adena Sweeney grew up steeped in the arts. Her formative education included the best offered through the Houston ISD magnet program. From project-based learning at the prestigious River Oaks Elementary to rigorous fine arts training at both the Middle and High Schools for Performing and Visual Arts, Adena received honors of distinction in the areas of music, art, and theater. Her desire to further master her craft led her to New York City, where she attended The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Through self-discovery, self-discipline, and individuality, she emerged from the conservatory a recipient of the Madelin Gilpatric scholarship award, and as a skilled actor classically trained for the stage. After participating in a variety of creative projects for theater and film in and around NYC for several years, she turned her attention to education where she found further fulfillment and joy. She acquired a rich instructional background with years of teaching in Asia as well as public schools in Texas. Adena has been privileged to teach a variety of subjects to students ranging from preschool English language learners to adults within the autism spectrum. She holds undergraduate degrees from Brigham Young University-Idaho and Sam Houston State University. Her teaching certifications consist of Theater Arts EC-12, Special Education EC-12, as well as Generalist EC-6. An exceptional artist and performer, Adena entertains her students even as she engages them with her vibrant personality and creative approach to life and learning.
