A LOOK INTO THE FUTURE

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

AT CTL, we provide the environment where students experience the skills needed to succeed now and in the future – in school, at home, in careers and in life. These 21st Century skills are essential tools today’s students need to be successful:

Critical thinking

Creativity

Collaboration

Communication

Information literacy

Media literacy

Technology literacy

Flexibility

Leadership

Initiative

Productivity

Social skills

These key skills have one focus – someone’s ability to enact and/or adapt to change.

WHAT IS OUR PLAN?

  • Students will have the support they need to complete the Texas Education Agency Distinguished Level of Achievement with an endorsement in Multi-Disciplinary Studies.

  • Students may earn college credit through our Dual Credit agreement with Lone Star College while completing high school course credit.

  • Tuition is free at Lone Star College while in high school with a minimum fee charged for registration.

  • Students are engaged in learning through CTL's project-based and inquiry-based model for teaching and learning.

  • CTL's Study Cafe will provide a social team area for meetings, conferences, studying, snacking, collaborating, and working on course assignments including individual and group projects.

  • Students will have the opportunity to shadow experts in the field, mingle with guest speakers, take field trips to colleges and universities, and attend university fairs.

WHAT ARE THE GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS?

CTL High students will complete a 26-Credit Distinguished Level of Achievement Diploma with Endorsements which consists of 22 credits for the Foundation High School Program along with a Multi-Disciplinary Studies Endorsement with the option of receiving additional courses at Lone Star College if they desire other endorsement areas. In addition to the academic classwork required for graduation, students are encouraged to enrich their education by active participation in organizations and extracurriculars.

HOW DOES THE LONE STAR COLLEGE DUAL ENROLLMENT/CREDIT WORK?

CTL High is excited to partner with Lone Star College-Montgomery to offer an early college high school model through the dual credit program in which students will receive high school credit and college credit simultaneously. Our goal is that core courses the junior and senior years will be taught on our campus with Lone Star approved instructors.

Dual credit is a process by which a high school student enrolls in a college course and receives simultaneous academic credit for the course from both the college and the high school. Students demonstrating college readiness through a college placement exam can earn college and high school credits in the same course by attending classes at their high school, on a Lone Star College campus and/or online. Dual credit students can also earn college level certifications while in high school that can lead to immediate job opportunities. Dual credit teachers are regularly employed faculty members of LSC, or high school instructors verified by LSC to meet the same requirements as faculty teaching the same course on the college campus.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF CTL'S DUAL ENROLLMENT/CREDIT PLAN?

  • Transfer many dual credit courses to Texas public colleges and universities, private institutions, and some out-of-state colleges and universities

  • Complete college level certifications while in high school that can lead to immediate job opportunities

  • Save money on college tuition

  • Accelerate time to degree completion by getting a head start in college – dual credit students can earn up to a year or more of college credit

  • Build confidence by easing the transition to college and life expectations

  • Access the Lone Star College student support services – library, career services, computer labs, and tutoring

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS?

To be eligible for dual credit you must:

  • Be enrolled in high school with an agreement with Lone Star College

  • Obtain approval from the high school designee for dual credit enrollment

  • Complete college admissions requirements for admissions into the dual credit program. In order to register for a dual credit course, students must be assessed in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics prior to enrollment and show that they meet the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements

  • Meet all course prerequisites

  • Complete the LSC admission application

  • Maintain a final grade of C or better in all dual credit courses in order to enroll in subsequent courses
