Robbie earned his B.F.A. in Filmic Writing from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, where he studied storytelling under such noted writers and filmmakers as John Milius, Stewart Stern, and Abraham Polonsky. His career has taken him through a variety of creative fields, including helping legendary animator Chuck Jones market his artwork, writing a series of graphic novels for young readers for Stone Arch Books, creating math education videos for Key Curriculum Press, and writing and editing for Houston Grand Opera. He is also the creator of Rusty MacGuffin, a series of pulp-inspired adventure and monster books designed especially for reluctant readers.

For more than 20 years, Robbie has taught English and Social Studies in California and Texas, working primarily with middle school students in California and high school students in Spring ISD. Throughout his teaching career, he has had a particular interest in reaching students who don't think of themselves as readers and helping them discover the book that changes their minds.

Robbie believes curiosity is one of the most important tools a student can develop. Whether students are investigating history, exploring world geography, reading a story, or creating something of their own, his classroom emphasizes asking questions, making connections, thinking critically, and discovering answers rather than simply memorizing them. He believes students learn best when they understand that learning isn't confined to a textbook — the world around them is full of things worth investigating.

Outside the classroom, Robbie continues to write and create, but his favorite time is spent with his wife and playing with his son, whose own curiosity provides a frequent reminder that there is always another question worth asking.
